Now more than ever before, facility managers, building owners and contractors are required to find affordable ways to maintain their buildings and save money. This often results in deferring proper maintenance and replacement in order to balance ever shrinking budgets. Unfortunately, deferring roof repairs that are failing now is not prudent

SuperTherm® can help address the problem of "heat Island effect" which results in part from the combined heat of numerous individual hot roofs in a city, a suburb or on a campus. SuperTherm® is made of a blend of ceramic compounds that are highly reflective and emissive materials and can remain approximately 60 to 70°F cooler than traditional materials during peak summer weather. Traditional dark colored roofs in the United States will have temperatures of 150 to 185°F during moderately warm (85-90°) days of summer which results in a series of hot surfaces that create warmer surrounding air temperatures which require a tremendous amount of energy to cool.

SuperTherm® is a Cool Roof Restoration System.


"Cool roofing" refers to the use of highly reflective and emissive materials.
"Green roofs" refer to rooftop gardens. Solar Reflectance and Thermal Emittance are terms often used to evaluate cool roofs.

Solar reflectance, or albedo, is the percentage of solar energy reflected by the surface. Traditional roofing materials have low solar reflectance of 5 to 15%, which means that that they absorb 85 to 95% of the energy reaching them instead of reflecting the energy back out to the atmosphere. The coolest roof materials have a high solar reflectance of more than 65%, absorbing and transferring to the building 35% or less of the energy that reaches them. SuperTherm® reflects radiation across the entire solar spectrum: 99% of Ultraviolet (UV), 92% of Visual Light (Short Wave Radiation) and 99.5% of Infrared (Long Wave Heat Radiation).

SuperTherm® has an initial Solar Reflectance (SRI) of 92.2%. The reduction of solar reflectance in 3 years as tested for the Energy Star Program by the EPA was only a remarkable 0.01%.

Emissivity and Thermal Emittance.

"When radiation falls on a body, the

body will warm up until it emits as much heat as it absorbs and the stops warming, reaching a state of thermal equilibrium. If the heat loss by the body takes place in empty space, the only way in which the body can lose heat is through radiation. In that case, its radiated energy flux will be equal to the absorbed flux.


Reflectivity = 1- Absorptivity

What this means is that if all energy is reflected, no energy is left to be absorbed.

Absorptivity = Emissivity

What this means is that the only absorbed energy is emitted.

So if there was no absorption of energy, there would be no emission of energy either.

Solar reflectance and thermal emittance have noticeable effects on surface temperatures.

Conventional roof surfaces have low reflectance but high thermal emittance; standard black asphalt roofs can reach 170- 185F at midday during the summer. Bare metal or metallic surfaced roofs have high reflectance and low thermal emittance and can warm to 155 to 170°F. Super Therm® coated roofs with both high reflectance and high emittance remain within 5% of ambient temperature and reach peak temperatures of only 95 to 105% in the summer sun. The peak values vary by local conditions. However, research has proven that conventional roofs can be 55 to 85F hotter than the air on any given day, while SuperTherm® Cool Roof Systems stay within 5-10F of ambient temperature.

Super Therm can be applied over most roofing systems that are stable and leak free.

Different roofing sytems require slightly different preparation and application steps.

Super Therm has had excellent test results in the field after 15 years (and still going) in extremely severe conditions to remain at 84.1% of visible light reflectance, 73% of totla solar reflectance and 65% of infrared.

Super Therm has also been tested by the EPA for the Energy Star Program to have a reduction of Solar Reflectance of only 0.01% after 3 years
